Hi, I’m Galina Marcus
I paint portraits and still lifes that reflect my own perception of things rather than a realistic image projected on the back of my retina.
Every portrait begins with a question: how do we see one another beyond what is visible?
My paintings explore the space between physical reality and perceived reality. I use distortion and abstraction to give visual form to the invisible qualities that shape how we experience people, places, and ourselves.
While each painting grows from personal experience, my hope is that viewers will discover something of their own story reflected in the work.
This All Came Together For Me…
Growing up in Russia, building a corporate career, immigrating to the United States, leaving that career behind, becoming a mother, and creating spaces that support artists… It all shaped my work, my world, and how I show up. My art is part of my story.
Commission a Portrait
A commissioned portrait is an opportunity to see someone through a different lens.
I accept a limited number of portrait commissions each year. Rather than creating a literal likeness, I work closely with each collector to create a painting that reflects the subject’s unique presence and character. Every commission is an original work of art, created with the same thoughtfulness and artistic approach that guides my studio practice.
